Just a short drive from our base in Cala San Vicente, the ancient town of Pollenca is one of those places that captures you immediately. Narrow cobbled streets, honey-coloured stone buildings, and a town square that buzzes with life — it is the cultural heart of northern Mallorca and the perfect complement to your fitness retreat.
The Old Town
Pollenca's old town is a maze of atmospheric streets lined with galleries, boutiques, and cafes. Unlike the more touristy parts of the island, Pollenca has retained its authentic Mallorcan character. You will find local artisans selling handmade ceramics, leather goods, and jewellery. The architecture tells a story of centuries — Roman bridges, medieval churches, and baroque townhouses sitting comfortably side by side.
The 365 Steps of Calvari
No visit to Pollenca is complete without climbing the 365 Calvari steps. Starting near the Placa Major, this ancient stone stairway climbs through cypress trees to the hilltop chapel of El Calvari. The views from the top are spectacular — sweeping across the terracotta rooftops of the old town to the mountains beyond. It is also a fantastic leg workout after a morning training session.
Our groups often take on the Calvari steps as an afternoon challenge. Some run them. Some take it slow and enjoy the views. Either way, the sense of achievement at the top is real.
The Sunday Market
Every Sunday morning, Pollenca's Placa Major transforms into one of Mallorca's best markets. Stalls overflow with local produce — fresh fruit, Mallorcan cheeses, sobrassada, olive oil, and honey. There are handmade crafts, artisan soaps, leather sandals, and vintage finds. It is the kind of market where you go for a quick browse and end up staying for hours.
Market days and cultural exploration — there is always something to discover in Pollenca.
Where to Eat
Pollenca has some genuinely excellent restaurants. For traditional Mallorcan food, the family-run spots around the Placa Major serve dishes like tumbet, frit mallorqui, and freshly caught fish. There are also modern Mediterranean restaurants with creative menus that use seasonal local ingredients. After a day of training and exploring, sitting in the town square with a good meal is one of life's simple pleasures.
Art and Culture
Pollenca has long attracted artists, writers, and musicians. The town hosts an annual classical music festival in the cloisters of Santo Domingo — one of Mallorca's most prestigious cultural events. Throughout the year, small galleries dot the old town, showcasing everything from contemporary Mallorcan art to photography exhibitions.
Getting There from Cala San Vicente
Pollenca is just 10 minutes by car from our base in Cala San Vicente. Many of our guests hire bikes and cycle there along the scenic road, which makes for a beautiful ride through the Mallorcan countryside. We also organise group excursions on rest days.
